Meet
our Jones Creek Tennis Pro - Xavier Pique
Xavier has been teaching tennis at Jones Creek since 2001, when he became a full-time teaching
professional. He is a certified instructor, with certification from the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR). Xavier took up
the game of tennis seriously in 1992, when he moved to Augusta from New York City. He has an NTRP rating of 4.0 and is an
active competitor in local and national tournaments.
Xavier’s teaching philosophy is simple: Teach sound fundamental technique, and make it
fun to be on the tennis court. He encourages parents to join in with their children during classes (no extra charge!) and
is very active in promoting play among his students and other Jones Creek tennis players. In recent years,
Jones Creek has fielded several teams, including a Women’s 2.5, Women’s 3.0, Women’s 3.5, a Mixed Doubles
team, a Junior 12 and under team, and a Mixed 7.0 tournament team.
Xavier lives in nearby Bridlewood subdivision. He holds a Bachelor of Science
Degree (Physics) from Trinity College, Hartford, CT, and an MBA in Finance from the Stern School of Business. His wife, Edelma,
teaches Spanish at Greenbrier High School. Both his sons, Daniel and Gabriel play tennis. Daniel is currently ranked
in the top 60 in Georgia, and Gabriel will be playing for Jones Creek in the upcoming Junior Tennis League (JTL) season.
Xavier also teaches
at the Augusta Jewish Community Center, and is a certified Wheelchair Tennis instructor. He may be reached
at (706) 650-1817 or via e-mail at xdpique@hotmail.com. Happy hitting everyone!
